The immediate damaging effect of a gunshot wound is typically severe bleeding, and with it the potential for hypovolemic shock, a condition characterized by inadequate delivery of oxygen to vital organs. Common causes of death following gunshot injury include bleeding, hypoxia caused by pneumothorax, catastrophic injury to the heart and larger blood vessels, and damage to the brain or central nervous system. Additionally, gunshot wounds typically involve a large degree of nearby tissue disruption and destruction due to the physical effects of the projectile. Non-fatal gunshot wounds frequently have severe and long-lasting effects, typically some form of major disfigurement and/or permanent disability. As a rule, all gunshot wounds are consideredmedical emergencies that require immediate treatment. Hospitals are generally required to report all gunshot wounds to police.
Hospitals are not required to inform the police in every country. It has to do with the legislation made up per country. Where I am from we do not inform the police and excised bullets are to the patient. They can decide what to do. We do this to ensure the patient that whatever their problems are, they will always be assured of independent medical help.
This has nothing to do with respect for our colleagues in blue nor wanting to have criminals in the streets. The priority for healthcare professionals is set to give independent medical assistance, not stop crime. If we would share information, vulnerable groups in society might not come in anymore for emergencies.
Thats not very bright. Excised bullets are evidence and if he was injured while committing a crime he should be reported to the police. It sounds that in your country you do not greatly appreciate the police, we all work with the same intentions, to help the people. People are not safe with criminals being let free to do the same mistakes.
