The family hit the Alpine Slide on Sunday July 3rd when temperatures reached into the low 80s at the heat of the day. Father and his 4 year old were severely burned when their sled stopped moving in the middle of the track halfway down the mountain. Mother says she went down first with their 6 year old. She waited at the bottom of the slide for her husband, when 1 minute turned into 10- she started to worry. After calling for help, a stranger reached the bottom of the slide with her 4 year old on his lap. Her sons hands were burned and the stranger reported that the boys father was hurt and behind him trying to get his sled back on the track. Meanwhile father was in shock after severely burning his hands, arms, legs and bottom on the metal slide. We came to a stop at a turn causing the sled to tilt so we both ended up on the slide. The father of two says he doesn't know if there was something making his slide stick or if it was broken, all he knew was that it wasn't moving. Not wanting to get hit from approaching riders, he grabbed the side of the metal slide to get them moving again. He noticed the slide was hot but didn't realize head been burned until his 4 year old, sitting on his lap said Daddy your hand looking down then saw my hand -and most of the skin had come off.Father sustained third degree burns. Immediately they were rushed to the hospital . Luckily the 4-year-old recovered in two weeks, but the father had to underwent skin graft surgery. Credit: Heidi Hatch at kutv.com
I have a friend who got brain damage on one of those and almost died. I'd never get on one.
She's recovered about everything but what happened. Those days right around that are blurry or blank. It happened the summer before I went into my coma and I was in and out of hospitals before that, so I'm the one who's a little fuzzy on details.
