Hale’s colloidal iron stain

Hale’s colloidal iron stain

This stain is often used to diagnose chromophobe renal cell carcinoma and often used to differentiate it from other tumors. To summarize the method: at a low pH value, sulfatated and carboxilated mucopolysaccharids can absorb colloidal Fe3+ions. The absorbed Fe3+ can be demonstrated with Perls-reaction (blue).
