Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis (EV), also known as "Tree Man Syndrome" is a rare genetic disorder caused by a mutation in the EVER1 and EVER2 genes. The causes of the tree-bark appearance of the skin are rapidly growing warts, mostly arising from non-virulent HPV strains 5 and 8 (meaning, people who do not suffer from EV will not get sick from these HPV strains). There is no cure for EV; however, management of the warts can prevent the degree of disfigurement depicted in the image above.
