Aortic Dissection

It is a condition in which there is a spread of the blood through an intimal tear in the wall of aorta forming another lumen and separation of the layers. Risk factors for developing aortic dissection are hypertension, syphilis, coarctation of aorta, marfans syndrome, ehlers-danlos syndrome, pregnancy, copper deficiency, and trauma. The histopathology of the this condtion is important to remember and it shows cystic medial degeneration of the blood vessel. This diagram shows the different classifications of the condition.
