Approximately 90 000 valve substitutes are now implanted in the United States and 280 000 worldwide each year.Here you can see different types of artificial heart valves with different mechanisms but the same function.The prothesis enables the blood to flow properly from the atrium to the ventricle and from the ventricle to the aorta. Without valves, the blood flow back and forth through the heart which makes life impossible.
