This picture illustrates a cystogastrostomy. This is a surgical procedure used most commonly in the treatment of acute pancreatitis. When pancreatic ducts become damaged and occluded, a collection of pancreatic juices and enzymes collect in the peripancreatic tissue. This is termed a pseudocyst due to its absence of a true epithelial membrane. During this procedure, the cyst is opened and an anastomosis is made between it and an opening in the wall of the stomach.
