There are a lot of biomedical ethical concerns here. Doctors take oaths to do no harm, however is allowing someone in great pain or low quality of life to pass on painlessly causing harm or helping them? You would also need to consider the criteria for qualifying for physician assisted suicide. Could disabled persons chose to end their lives? Or mentally handicapped? Could parents ask for their terminal children to be put out of their misery. Also would legalizing something like this discriminate against poor people who would rather die than incur healthcare debt on their family. Or perpetuate a culture where people with disabilities would rather die than live instead of helping them achieve meaningful lives. To clarify, I consider physician assisted suicide to mean that the doctor administers the lethal drug for the patient who may or may not have 6 more months to live. Physician assisted dying for terminal patients as practiced in states such as Oregon is a different matter as the patient has to be able to administer the drug to themselves and show knowledge of their actions removing some of the ethical issues there.
