Please what is the main rationale behind giving lasix before blood transfusion ?
Not certain but my guess is in addition to fluid overload, blood transfusions can occasionally lead to transient hyperkalemia. Potassium wasting diuretics may be prophylactic against this
Prevent both fluid overload and in some cases hyperk+. Although when observed in the clinical setting, rarely does this happen even with pts presenting with CHF
Used a lot in CHF to prevent fluid overload, units may be split in half to allow slower infusion and avoid overload.
