What if you don’t have any chance to look patient’s blood glucose, what would you do?
Taste the pee. Or use ants. If the suvar cotent is high, the ants will take to it. If not, sugar content is normal. Not diabetic.
Check for urine ketones. As long as the patient is not in ketosis, there’s no need to take immediate action. Also , take a proper history, if patient has signs and symptoms of diabetes try getting blood sugar checked, if not review later.
I wanted to know that: what would you do if you didn’t any lab devices...
So context matters here. Hypo and hyperglycemia can look pretty similar in the diabetic patient. If you can’t check their sugar but suspect either of those things, you can give them glucose. If they are hypoglycemic, they will improve. If they are hyperglycemic, it won’t help, but also won’t make them worse off. On the other hand, if you were to give them insulin without checking, you could send them into a coma. So don’t do that.
One of my relatives complained that once they forgot to flush the toilet after urination and the next day boom. Dead ants were floating - random blood sugar level was 270 😕
