ECTOPIA CORDIS

ECTOPIA CORDIS

This is a condition were the baby is born with heart outside the body. A condition seen where the sternal plates fail to fuse. Mostly the babies can't survive and end up dying in first few days of the birth

For a baby like the one pictured, can surgery be successful?

I don't think surgery can do a great help in this situation. This situation has got a poor prognosis, but the survival rate may increase depending on location of heart or displacement happened. But the chance of survival is still feable.
