Vague nerve is parasympathetic and has the action of slowing HR and lowering BP (vasovagal response to carotid massage). Sympathetic innervation from lower cervical/upper thoracic ganglia raises HR. Intercostal and long thoracic nerves are both somatic motor nerves.
