This eye redness occur when the superficial vessels on the sclera become swollen or dilated. It essentially indicates the eye is irritated as a result of dryness, using contact lenses, trauma or injury of the eye causing subconjunctival hemorrage, foreign object lodged, or due to an inflammatory response to allergies such as allergic conjunctivitis. Treatment is aimed toward finding the cause. Most cases aren't alarming and rarely signal a serious condition, resolving spontaneously after treating the underlying cause.
