PEDAL EDEMA: build up of fluid in the foot and ankle area Common causes : (may not be due to any underlying disease) sprain or strain , fluid retention from large salt intake, prolonged time on feet (standing or walking) , menstruation, pregnancy , or medication side effects. Self treatment: losing excess weight , elevating the legs above the heart , exercising and wearing compression stockings , eating low salt diet Seek medical care if : 1. Develop unexplained and persistent symptoms 2. Feel pain in your feet 3. Get warm , red , inflamed feet 4. Have a history of hypothyroidism or heart , lover , kidney disease See doctor immediately : 1. Are short of breath 2. Have chest pain 3. Have a fever Health conditions related to pedal edemA: 1. Congestive heart failure 2. Cirrhosis of liver 3. Chronic venous insufficiency 4. Nephrotic syndrome
