⚓DILACERATION⚓

Def.: Shape and structural Anomalies due to a TRAUMA during development of permanent or milk teeth.
___
Characteristics: irregular dentine formation in coronal part. Angulation and sharp bend along the root. Eruption disturbance.
___
Pathogenesis: mostly mechanical trauma on the calcifying tooth. More often in maxillary premolars and frontal section.
Inflammation around the non erupted tooth also might have an influence on formation of irregular teeth.
___

Diagnosis: X-RAY in different angels of irradiation is the most reliable diagnostic method.
___
Diff. Diag. : Although it is rare but sometimes it might be difficult to differentiate from local calcified bone tissue, fused roots, ossified osteitis.
___
Treatment: a dilacerated tooth usually does not require any treatment. unless due to other indications extraction is needed.in this case the removal could be complicated and requires surgical procedure which needs many x-ray pictures. In case of functional or esthetic disturbance of an already erupted dilacerated tooth we can preparate the crown for a prosthetic solution like a solo crown .
