Sialolithiasis seen in occlusal radiograph

Sialolithiasis are calcified structures that develop within the salivary ductal system very common in submandibular (Wharton )duct because of it's long , tortuous ,upward path of the duct and thicker mucoid secretions which has the great tendency to form calculi.

TREATMENT :
If the calculi is small can be treated conservatively by gentle massage of the gland in an effort to milk the stone out from the duct orifice....sialagogues ,moist heat and increased fluid intake promotes the passage of stone from the duct 

If the calculi is large it is removed surgically
