Transthoracic Trauma Impalement

Transthoracic Trauma Impalement

Patient arriving to the ER with a impalement of their thoracic cavity. Luckily for him, the metal piece just narrowly avoided piercing his heart which most certainly would have caused this wound to be fatal. Prior to arriving at the hospital, emergency first responders underwent a difficult "prolonged procedure lasting nearly an hour" to free the patient. After being admitted to the ER, the patient was conscious and described the "pain he was experiencing as 4-5." After necessary patient stabilizing procedures were performed in the ER, the patient was quickly admitted to surgery to remove the metal piece. (Credit: Mci-forum, medicalpedia)

Sounds like my family. Oh this ruptured appendix is only a 3-4 on the pain scale.
