Elephantiasis is a tropical disease spread through mosquito bites. People living in affected tropical or subtropical areas are most at risk of infection. There are 3 types of parasitic roundworms causing it : Brugia malayi / brugia timori/ wuchereria bancrofti .. it involves enlargement of legs and thickening of skin due to defects in the lymphatic system . Treatments are only effective when the worms are still in the body otherwise antiparasitic drugs are not useful and we can switch to surgery to remove the damaged lymphatic tissues . We also can relieve pressure at certain areas like the scrotum .
