Female reproduction here on MEDizzy! Quick overview! 1. Primary follicles contain oocyte and begin producing the sex hormone estrogen. 2. Secondary follicles contain secondary oocyte and produce estrogen and progesterone. Antrum is forming. 3. Graafian (vesicular) follicle develops. It provides for the maturation and release of a fertilizable oocyte. Antrum formed. 4. Ovulation: the secondary oocyte is released. 5. Corpus Luteum produces female sex hormones, progesterone, estradiol and estrogen. Its responsbile for establishing and maintaining pregnancy. 6. Corpus Luteum degenerates to Corpus Albicans.
