One of my favorite types of trauma injuries seen frequently in the ER. A lot of these injuries can be caused by vehicle accidents such as falling off a motorcycle and not wearing the proper protective clothing resulting in degloving of the dermis.
Correct, however a deglove injury is considered to be a type of a avulsion injury. So they are basically one in the same. You can have two different types of avulsion injuries: Suprafascial avulsion and subfascial avulsion. Suprafascial involves a skin injury where the skin that is removed does not extend pass the subcutaneous tissue layer. On the other hand a subfascial avulsion goes past the subcutaneous tissue layer and exposes the muscles tendons and bones. So in this case it is a subfascial avulsion which is commonly referred to as a major deglove injury.
