Congenital diaphragmatic hernia

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia

What is a congenital diaphragmatic hernia? Please ALWAYS TAKE CDH Seriously The diaphragm is a thin sheet of muscle that separates the abdomen from the chest and it helps us breathe. A congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a birth defect that causes a hole in the diaphragm during fetal development. A CDH allows some of the lower abdominal organs to move through the diaphragm into the chest. Treating Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia: Most babies with CDH need breathing support soon after birth. All babies with CDH need surgery to gently move their abdominal organs down from the chest and close the hole in the diaphragm. Complications of Diaphragmatic Hernia: Diaphragmatic hernia occurs frequently and often is asymptomatic or produces mild symptoms which are controlled easily by medical management. Hernia of the diaphragm, however, may produce serious complications associated with considerable morbidity and possible fatality. CDH Statistics. Over 1600 babies are born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia EVERY YEAR in the United States alone
