Removal of sialolith

Removal of sialolith

(A) Surgical opening of the submandibular duct (sialodochotomy) and removal of the stone (sialolithectomy). Note the lacrimal probe in the orifice of the Wharton duct and the suture passed proximal to stone to prevent displacement. (B) Duct revision occurs by suturing the duct to the floor of mouth mucosa (sialodochoplasty) and tying off the distal end of the duct.
