⚠️Horrible case of a shark bite!

⚠️Horrible case of a shark bite!

Anthony and 3 friends were spearfishing off the coast of West Palm Beach, FL. After shooting a large 50lbs cobia a large bull shark came out of the deep. At that time Anthony thought to look down… but it was too late. A large bull shark already had its jaws wide open and clamped on to his left leg. The first bite severed most of the nerves, tendons, and ligaments in his knee and ankle at the same time. The initial bite measured about 17.5 inches across. The shark bit down repeatedly and left several concentric wounds on his leg. The last nearly removed most of Anthony’s calf. When they surfaced… the sea was crimson with fresh blood. Once on board, his dive partners administered a tourniquet and compression bandages. The boat raced in the inlet and was met by an ambulance that rushed him to St. Mary’s Medical Center. In all Anthony spent over 5 and a half weeks in the hospital undergoing several surgeries to save his leg. The team performed several major wound cleanings, removing infected and damaged tissues, as well as less invasive cleaning daily. After 2 years of intensive physical therapy, Anthony has regained the ability to walk. Left with an ever present scar as a reminder of his ordeal, Anthony remains forever thankful to the team of people (friends and doctors) that saved his life. Since the attack, Anthony has been back in the water diving and fishing with his friends. Credit: Anthony Segrich at sharkbiteresearch.org
