Lymphatic malformation

Lymphatic malformation

The subtypes are probably variants of the same pathologic process, and the size of the vessels may depend on the nature of the surrounding tissues. Macrocystic lymphatic malformations (“cystic hygroma”) often occur in the neck, where the loose adjacent connective tissues allow for more expansion of the vessels. Microcystic lesions are more frequent in the mouth, where the denser surrounding connective tissue and skeletal muscle limit vessel expansion.
