How is rheumatic fever diagnosed?

There is no single test used to diagnose rheumatic fever. Doctors diagnose rheumatic fever using a checklist of symptoms. If your doctor thinks that you may have rheumatic fever, they will examine you and refer you tests including: blood tests a throat swab an ECG an echocardiogram (an ultrasound of the heart) These tests can help your doctor find out if you are likely to have rheumatic fever.
