Cancer Spreads from Organ Donor to 4 People in 'Extraordinary' Case

This extraordinary case shows that organ transplants can not only pass on infectious diseases, but also cancer, at least in some rare cases. It's well known that organ transplants can pass infectious diseases from donors to recipients in rare cases. But even more rarely, transplants can transmit cancer, as a new case shows. In what's being described as an "extraordinary case," four people in Europe developed breast cancer after they received organs from the same donor, according to a new report. Three of the patients died from the cancer, which underscores the "often-fatal consequences of donor-derived breast cancer," the authors wrote in their report, published in the July issue of the American Journal of Transplantation. Is organ donation from a cancer patient legal?? I dont think so... But it was undetected, what a bad luck.. Under the immunsupression recipients dont have any chance for cancer fighting..

Sadly everything can't be tested for...worst scenario I know about is organs that were retrieved from a patient from Maryland USA who died of rabies...the recipients never had a chance😞 recipients of less than perfect organs are informed in Ontario of a donor/organs condition and allowed to make an informed choice. We were excited to have been the recipient of an unfortunately brain dead 10 year old ..at my hospital the organ is inspected by the surgeons before the transplant..shockingly.the renal artery needed an endarterectomy which they did...recipient was informed and chose to accept the kidney....our recipients are never anesthetized until the kidney has bee approved for transplant by the transplanting surgeon😷☺
