Cause of Endocardial cushion

An endocardial cushion defect or AVSD is caused by a lack of central septation during development of the heart. It is the most frequent cardiac defect found in patients with Down syndrome (trisomy 21) but can also occur sporadically. It results in a distinctive malformation of the internal cardiac.
