Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone and can cause symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, weight loss, and feeling very warm or hot. On the other hand, hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough thyroid hormone, and causes symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, and difficulty concentrating.
