Phytophotodermatitis (Margarita Dermatitis)

Phytophotodermatitis (Margarita Dermatitis)

A 30 year old female diagnosed with phytodermatitis. Prednisone and topical steroid prescribed. She was squeezing limes for drinks on last week for an outdoor party. She washed her hands but did not apply sunscreen before going outside for several hours. Vesicles developed rapidly after 48 hours on both hands. 3rd photo is after 24 hours. The condition, called phytophotodermatitis, happens when a certain plant compound comes in contact with the skin, making that one area light sensitive. During the summer, lime juice is the common cause for this condition, which is why some doctors call it ‘margarita dermatitis'.
