A 34-year-old man who is known to have a congenital bicuspid aortic valve attends the dentist for polishing. What is the most appropriate management with regards to endocarditis prophylaxis? A. Amoxicillin 3g PO pre-procedure B. No antibiotics needed C. Metronidazole 1g PO pre-procedure D. Gentamicin 120mg IM pre-procedure E. Amoxicillin 1g IV + gentamicin 120mg IV pre-procedure
thank you, greetings to spain, the reason why i asked was because in some countries and mainly in UK they dont use prophylaxis anymore
In Spain is just indicated in: high risk procedures (gum or periapical region involved, or perforation of the mucosa) in high risk patients (patients with protesic valve, previous endocarditis, or congenit cardiopaties). With 1 dosis of amoxi or ampicillin (if allergic-clinda) 30-60min before procedure.
I take a 2g loading dose 2 hours before dental work and 500mg q4 x 2 doses. Source...my cardiologistππ
in UK for example it is not recommended anymore to use antibiotics as prophylaxis
