Who is most likely to develop iron-deficiency anemia?
Women are likely to develop iron-deficiency anemia due to menstruation and childbirth. Iron-deficiency diets also develop iron-deficiency anemia especially in individuals older than 65. Sometimes problem is not in the diet but their absorption as in intestinal diseases. Patients of cardiovascular diseases usually take blood thinners such as heparin and aspirin, this also leads to iron-deficiency anemia. Lastly, renal diseases especially chronic kidney failure results in decline in the number of red blood cells due to their inadequate synthesis resulting in iron-deficiency anemia.
