This concerns my boyfriend's grandfather. He is an 84 year old male who has been non-ambulatory for the past month. He presented with gallstone sx of and had a cholecystectomy one month ago. 20 days post surgery he started experiencing the following psychological symptoms: delirium, confusion, delusions of seeing people in the house who are not there, asking for locks to be changed, he also blurts out obscenities comprising of violent intentions towards loved ones. Such episodes last for about 6 hours until he is able to fall asleep. Other sx include rapid weight loss, agitation, loss of appetite. What is thought to be episodic dementia has worsened progressively for the past week. He seems malnourished. There is no family history of dementia. As a matter of fact, he has always been a healthy intelligent man. We would appreciate any feedback. We are very concerned about what other pathology he can possibly have. Thank you so muchBeers Criteria for Elderly Patients
