Hi im Liz and I just finished my first year of college. Iβm a nursing major, can someone please give me tips that will help me be successful during nursing school? Anything would help :)
Learn to decode multiple choice and Multiple answer questions, learn medical terminology, take your own notes. Read the book: Make it Stick...great science of learning. Learn to meditate and calm yourself. School and the profession are stressful...do not depend on your work to make you happy....build a full, interesting and fun life...nursing will be a part but it is not who you are, it is what you DO, there is a difference.
Learn it well enough to teach it. Pick up some books that let you apply the information. Saunders NCLEX is good. Do as many NCLEX questions as you can. They will change how you think about the information and teach you to think like a nurse. If you use ATI or HESI, use all the material offered to help you use the information. Read the book once and keep it by you while doing the questions (which are basically case scenarios) so that you can clarify what you don't understand. Don't miss class, your professor will focus on priorities. I also recommend LaCharity's Prioritization, Delegation and Assignment to help you understand those elements. Do the Case Studies that go with the topic that you are learning and read the rationales. Read the first chapter several times.
