HELLP syndrome is a severe form of pre-eclampsia. It is characterized by: - hemolysis - deranged liver enzymes - thrombocytopenia It is imperative to recognize HELLP syndrome early in its course since this condition is associated with increased risk of stillbirth, placental abruption, and acute renal failure.
