Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder characterized by repeated blockage of airway. Types of sleep apnea are; - Obstructive sleep apnea i.e. most common type, throat muscles relax and the upper respiratory tract blocks - Central sleep apnea i.e. Brain does not send proper signals to the muscles which control breathing. Causes and Risk factors of Sleep Apnea are - Gender i.e. male - Obesity - Age over 40 - Neck size of 17 inches and 16 inches or more in males and females respectively - Large tongue - Large tonsils - Small jaw - Genetic influence - Allergy, sinusitis or other related diseases Effects of Sleep Apnea - Hypertension i.e. High blood pressure - Heart attack - Atrial defibrillation - Stroke
