Do to the potential of developing Lithium toxicity, pts are supposed to have their levels checked Q2 weeks to start then monthly and dosage adjusted as needed. Also this medication should only be used in severe cases of bipolar disorder or schizophrenia when all other medications and treatment options have proven to be ineffective.
