Risk Factors of Binge Eating Disorder (BED) • Genetics; BED is associated with high level of dopamine which induces sense of pleasure. This condition may also be inherited. • Gender; more common in women • Increased body size; 50% of BED-affected individuals are obese heightening the demand of food intake • Unsatisfactory body image; individuals with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) or lean and skinny individuals usually binge eat to suppress their sad emotions and gain weight respectively • Psychological disorders; most common risk factor is the underlying psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, phobia, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Bipolar Disorder and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
