Osteoarthritis is the most common degenerative bone disease. It is a type of arthritis characterized by breakdown of protective cartilage in big joints like knees, hips and hands resulting in friction between the two rubbing bones colliding with each other ultimately degenerating. It is common in old obese women.
Old, Obese Women???!!! Wow! That’s really offensive! So, I’m 48, and have had 2 joint replacement surgeries in a 15 month period. I have a disease called Gitelman’s syndrome and due to my disease I developed RA and subsequently ate away at my joints. I am not fat nor obese. Osteoarthritis also occurs in men as well as in women. It can occur in people who are healthy, thin. It’s a fact of life that happens to everyone in some degree. There are those that the joint get “used” faster needing replacement surgery and others that it’s a slow process.
