Treatment includes assisting the patient to breathe using high-flow oxygen and gradually rewarming them to raise the body temperature to normal. Broad spectrum antibiotics are started until it is certain that an infection is not present. Thyroid replacement is done by tri-iodothyronin (T3) which is initially administered as an IV bolus and after 48-72 hours given orally.
