Gower's Sign in Proximal Myopathy

Gower's Sign in Proximal Myopathy

Gower's sign is an important clinical manifestation of proximal muscle weakness. It is seen in various proximal muscles conditions such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, dermatomyositis, Becker muscular dystrophy, and Pompe disease. The attached video demonstrates standing up from squatting position in normal and abnormal proximal muscle weakness. In case of proximal myopathy, the individual uses his/her hands to get up from squat position.
