Basic Functions of Liver • Synthesis of plasma proteins e.g. albumin, clotting factors • Detoxification of blood • Storage of minerals, glycogen and vitamins (A, D, E, K) • Activation of enzymes • Metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats • Excretion of cholesterol, bilirubin, hormones and drugs • Production and excretion of bile • Kupffer cells destroy pathogens, it is a part of mononuclear phagocyte system • Synthesis of angiotensinogen to raise blood pressure
