What is the difference between cancer, carcinoma and a tumor??
A tumor is a mass of abnormal cells which can be either benign (non-cancerous, confined and doesn’t spread to other tissues) or malignant (cancerous, which spreads). We refer to it as ‘cancer’ when the abnormal cells in the tumor divide uncontrollably and damage body tissue. Carcinoma is a specific type of cancer that originates in the epithelial tissue of the skin or the tissue that lines the internal organs e.g liver and kidneys. Carcinomas can be benign or malignant depending on the type of carcinoma. Basal cell carcinomas (which originate in the basal cell layer of the skin) and squamous cell carcinomas (originate in squamous layer of the skin) are usually benign. However squamous cell carcinoma is more serious as it is more likely to metastasize (spread) to other tissues around the body. Lot of info there but hopefully it helps!
Nice explanation!! Squamous cell carcinoma is malignant. The benign counterpart is squamous cell papilloma.
Tumors are not necessarily cancerous. Carcinomas grow slowly but are cancers. Sarcinomas grow rapidly and aggressively and are cancerous. Cancer is a term referring to malignant cells or cells that will become malignant which divide rapidly and so have rapid growth.
Tumor is a part of that mass which has abnormal cells... which creates a lot of cancerious cells which also harms the full body
