Which public health measures need to be taken to prevent dengue outbreaks?
Prevention of Dengue • Avoid going outdoors where a mosquito can bite you. Remember, if the same mosquito bites someone else the infection can transmit to them. • Use mosquito repellants, peridomestic vector control and net to keep the mosquitoes away. • Fumigate the foci of mosquitoes. • Destroy abandoned containers. • Avoid water bodies at dawn and dusk such as mud close to water bodies e.g. marshes, plant axils, tree holes, ponds, and stagnant water in containers, clay pots and tires. • If you have history of dengue, take extra care of diet, rest and medicines because such patients are more likely to develop complications.
