What are the differential diagnosis for night sweats?

The term refers to excessive and abnormal amount of sweating during the night. The possible causes include: menopause, idiopathic hyperhidrosis, tuberculosis, bacterial infections causing endocarditis, osteomyelitis, abscess, cancers such as lymphoma, medication induced like (anti-depressants, aspirin and acetaminophen), hypoglycemia , carcinoid syndrome, hyperthyroidism and autonomic neuropathy. Treatment is done by diagnosis the cause for example hormone replacement therapy in menopause is used.
