What are the CDC recommendations for controlling the spread of H1N1 influenza (swine flu) in healthcare settings?
CDC Recommendations to Control the Spread of Swine Flu in Healthcare Setting 1. Allow patients in single-patient rooms with door closed. A more preferred recommendation is to accommodate patients in airborne-infection isolation room with negative-pressure. Such rooms expel the air directly outside or recirculated by High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. 2. Instruct the patients to wear surgical masks outside their room. 3. All relative procedures e.g. intubation, bronchoscopy and suctioning must be conducted in a room with negative air pressure. 4. Educate the patients about hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene. Encourage them to implement it. 5. All used utensils must be washed thoroughly with washing agent before someone else’s use. 6. The healthcare staff must wear all preventive equipments e.g. gloves and goggles. They must dispose them properly and wash their hands after contacting the patient. 7. Use of N-95 respirator is highly encouraged.
