What are the best ways of examining for fasciculations in the arms?
Fasciculation’s are involuntary and local muscle contractions in a group of muscles which are visible under the skin on naked eye. These are associated with lower motor neuron lesions example amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. To look for fasciculation in the arm exposure of upper limb and chest should be done. Patient should be asked to sit comfortably and limb should be examined on every angle. Fasciculation can also be seen in benign fasciculation syndrome, exercises, motor neuron disease, neuromuscular disease, movement disorders, poisoning, and drug induced.
