Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder characterized by abnormal hormone levels in the body of a woman. In a woman suffering from PCOS, the male hormone level is higher than the female hormone level which becomes a hindrance in maintaining normal menstrual cycle. This makes getting pregnant very difficult. Women with PCOS often experience unstable pregnancy. The exact cause of PCOS is still unknown. However, there are some possibilities. - Genetic influence - Obesity - Insulin resistance - Inflammation The symptoms of PCOS are - Irregular menstruation - Menorrhagia i.e. Heavy menstrual bleeding - Hirsutism i.e. Excessive hair growth on back, chest and belly - Acne - Weight gain - Male pattern baldness - Headaches - Darkening of skin around neck, groin and under breasts
