Cobweb appearance can be seen in CSF sample of a patient with MTB infection of brain
In CNS infection and resulting inflammation, protein quantity is increased in CSF and ratio of albumin and globulin is altered, differently in different infections. In Tubercular meningitis, when CSF is kept in a tube for 12 hours, a coagulum forms in the form of cobweb due to fibrin in higher protein content in the fluid. This cobweb formation was considered a positive test in the diagnosis of Tubercular meningitis when advanced tests were not available.
