Outline the criteria for staging AKI
When renal function deteriorates in kidney injury, urea in blood increases. It is also seen as increased creatinine and decreased GFR value. In acute kidney injury urine output decrease as well. Acute kidney injury can be divided into stages. In stage 1 AKI, creatinine is equal to or more then 1.5 to 2 with urine output less than 0.5ml/hr for 6 consecutive hours. Stage 2 Acute kidney injury is termed as creatinine value equal to or more then 2 to 3 and urine output is less than 0.5 ml/hr for 12 hours. Stage 3 AKI creatinine value is more than or equal to 3 and urine output less than 0.3 ml/hr for 24 or to more than 24 hours or no urine output for more than 12 hours. Renal injury is seen clinically as periorbital edema, peripheral edema, decreased urine output and shortness of breath.
