Bell's phenomenon or palpebral oculogyric reflex is the reflex of eye when it is closing. the eyeball moves upwards. This phenomenon is a normal defense mechanism and is present in most of the population. This phenomenon is abnormal when orbicularis oculi muscle is weakened. This can occur in conditions like bilateral facial palsy, gullien barre syndrome. This phenomenon is the reason why traumatic abrasions are more common in inferior and central cornea because the eye ball moves upwards.
